The loss of democracy

Ladies and Gentlemen

Please be kind enough to note that from the dawn of January 27th, 2010, we as Sri Lankans do not live anymore under a Democratic rule of government.

Some may jeer me for the sheer warmth of supporting the winning party., but do note that the effect of this hostile take over and banishing the basic rights of every free human in this country will take it's toll in time to come.

Mark my words ladies and gentlemen, This is the beginning of the next Robert Mugabe and this is the beginning of the formation of a new Zimbabwe.

Mark my words again., before the end of 2010, the US$ will hit close to 160 rupees and the unemployment rate will hit more than 30% - 32% . The crime rate will skyrocket just as well with the price of commodities !.

May lord have mercy on our souls ! and our land !

  1. Dear Sir

Please note the meaning of 'democracy..' You can express like this today because of the existance of the democracy you say is not there. It is a difficult road to get to the top. ALL citizens should contribute for it. If you a citizen of Sri Lanka please get rid of this 'Americanization' and think as a Sri Lankan

  2. May be at least then the stupid Sri Lankans would realize they made a mistake, though it will surely be too late for any recognition by then.

  3. Democracy is a political government either carried out directly by the people (direct democracy) or by means of elected representatives of the people (Representative democracy). Even though there is no specific, universally accepted definition of 'democracy', there are two principles that any definition of democracy includes,
    1. equality and
    2. freedom.
These principles are reflected by all citizens being equal before the law, and having equal access to power, and freedom is secured by legitimized rights and liberties, which are generally protected by a constitution.

  4. Ha ha. What exactly do you refer to?

If it is the fact that there was increased army security outside Cinnamon Lakeside, that was because of information that SF had a bunch of armed army deserters with him and that they were planning trouble. The Government beefed up security, but no harm came to SF, did it? After bawling his eyes out, he left the hotel at approximately 9.50pm last night. I wonder if he paid his bill?

If you're referring to the fact that SF was soundly beaten in a free and fair election (acknowledged by, you know, Ranil, Rauf, Ban Ki Moon and about 14,000 election monitors), then you don't really understand what democracy is.

As for your weird speculations about crime and unemployment; for your information, under MR, the biggest criminals in SL - the LTTE - were completely destroyed, and unemployment FELL from 8.3% in 2004 to 5.2% this year. If that's not a good trend, I don't know what is.

    (2) Sri Lanka’s economy onwards and upwards

    By R M Cutler

MONTREAL - The continuity inherent in incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa's election victory, based on early returns, is likely to further strengthen confidence in Sri Lanka's economic revival after decades of civil war.

Indeed, such is the present strength of the economy, which is forecast to grow as much as 6% this year, that few observers believed even a surprise victory by his chief rival, former army chief Sarath Fonseka, would have had a significant negative impact on the present boom.

  8. Join the vigil against the disruption of democracy and democratic processes in SL by lighting a candle at your closest main road for 7 days. Do not congregate, we act as individuals. The vigil commenced last night and will continue for one week
